This is a combined material approach to putting together a book cover and looks fun. I would imagine it was put together by simply photographing a slice of bread and compositing it onto a blue gradient background layer. The most interesting part of the image I find is the typeface. Jam or some sort of syrup was used as a typeface.
I would say it was also photographed, then rendered in illustrator/Photoshop further before completing of the final design.
This book cover is very elegant, professional and I feel the ballet shoes are photographed on top of the sheet music to give the feel of a classically composed piece of music and the two-tone colour along with the ribbon, compliments it very nicely.
I also like the choice of uppercase serif typeface.
This book cover is very plain, simple and I would consider it to be affective.
In photographing just the pen, it gets the message across of what the book's theme is on,...'Creative Writing'
